Jamie Redknapp launches lavish show of praise for the in-form Mason Mount

Mason Mount harbours the potential of leading Chelsea from the front in the years to come, says former Liverpool skipper Jamie Redknapp in the aftermath of the Blues clinching a vital win away from home on their visit to Anfield.

Mount was the hero for Thomas Tuchel’s Londoners during the midweek showdown on Merseyside as the England international’s sublime strike in the first-half proved to be the deciding factor behind Chelsea’s victory over their fellow top-four challengers.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, pundit Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for the young Chelsea first-teamer, with the ex-Spurs star saying that Mount carried the sway of a modern-day player and was in line to don the captain’s armband for the Stamford Bridge giants in the near future.

“I think the best way to state what he is right now is the ultimate modern-day player.

“He can play in a two in midfield. He can play the No. 10. He can play wide left, wide right. He has that much quality, you could play him as a false 9 if you had to. He starts the press. His touch, he’s got finesse.

“I think he’s got everything to be the next Chelsea captain going forward.”

The 22-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of the brightest talents playing across the land in recent times following his rise at Chelsea over the past year and even after Frank Lampard’s sacking, remains new boss Tuchel’s trusted option on the team sheet week in and week out.
