Italian outfit Napoli has reportedly joined Premier League bigwigs Chelsea in the race to sign the highly-rated Fenerbahce central defender Attila Szalai.
Thomas Tuchel has been forced to scout the transfer market for emergency signings in the defensive department with the Chelsea boss set to lose out on star name Antonio Rudiger come next summer.
Rudiger has held out long for a major bump in his wages but with the talks leading nowhere on the contract front, the Germany international is understood to be nearing his exit from the English capital on a free transfer.
According to a report from the Italian news outlet Calciomercato, it is claimed that Serie A club Napoli have thrown their hat in the ring for the 23-year-old centre-back Szalai who is wanted by the Blues camp to shore up the backline.
Napoli’s mainstay at the back Kostas Manolas made the move back to his homeland to sign for Olympiakos last week and Napoli will look to sign a new recruit to provide cover for the outgoing Greece international.
