Inter Milan are looking to fork out a cut-price loan fee to land Romelu Lukaku’s signature from Chelsea which would put off the Belgian’s move away from London this summer.
Lukaku has been seeking a return to San Siro just a year into his big-money move to Chelsea with Thomas Tuchel’s side shelling out a club-record £97.5 million to secure the 29-year-old’s signing.
Following a disappointing first season back in the English capital, however, Inter Milan have emerged as the clear frontrunners to re-sign their former talisman but any agreement with Chelsea would be subject to the latter’s pricing demands.
According to a report from The Times, both clubs are yet to strike out an agreement for the loan fee with Inter willing to pay only £7 million and £9 million but pay Lukaku’s wages in full while Chelsea ask for a fee to the tune of £20 million.
Lukaku is understood to be a priority target for his old club who are hoping to challenge domestic rivals AC Milan for the Scudetto come next season after being dethroned in the 2021-22 campaign of their top flight crown.
