Incoming Everton manager Frank Lampard could be in for a challenge to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea ahead of Monday’s deadline day.
Loftus-Cheek’s future at Stamford Bridge has been subject to much speculation in the final days of the January transfer window with Everton eyeing up the midfielder’s signature amid rumours that Lampard is set to be hired to the Goodison Park top job.
An injury crisis in the midfield ranks for Everton has forced them to scout the market for an emergency signing with the England international Loftus-Cheek understood to be one of the top names on their wishlist.
Reports from Sky Sports credit the Merseysiders with a strong interest in the Chelsea first-team player but Thomas Tuchel is not keen on parting ways with Loftus-Cheek who he considers an important part of the Stamford Bridge fold.
Tuchel has relied on the 25-year-old to provide cover in the centre of the park during N’Golo Kante’s spell on the sidelines with injury with summer signing Saul Niguez failing to provide consistency in his displays.
