“I played against three massive defenders, you don’t have that in Germany”: Timo Werner after his debut game in Premier League

The 24-year-old, Timo Werner looked sharp in his first appearance for Chelsea FC. The German striker got in behind the Seagulls defenders in an impressive display at the Amex Stadium.

Chelsea earned their victory with Jorginho’s first-half penalty being canceled out by Leandro Trossard early in the second half. Reece James quickly restored a lead with a thunderbolt from distance. It was Zouma who put the last nail in Brighton’s coffin by scoring from a corner.

In his debut appearance in England after a career in Germany, Werner explained the game was more open in the second half than he was used to.

“It was a hard game after 1-1 but then Reece scored an amazing goal, ” Werner told MOTD .

“We are very happy that we won today.”

He also remarked on the physicality difference with the opponent defenders in his post-match interview.

“I played against three massive defenders, you don’t have that in Germany. I’m happy to be here and I think it was a good first game for me and the team.”

“The game is totally different. There is more space but when you come out in the second half and the game was totally different -[it] changed completely.”

“Brighton gave us a lot of problems,” said Timo.

Werner’s brilliant run which earned Chelsea’s first penalty has been applauded by many. His brilliant debut display has excited Lampard who thinks that a long way remains ahead for the German International.
