How Chelsea Lined-Up for the 2021-2022 Premier League Campaign [All 38 Matches]

Despite a season that proved to be a bag of mixed fortunes at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea would be pleased to secure a top-four berth which assures them of Champions League football for the next season.

Thomas Tuchel’s side finished third in the Premier League standings but were far behind the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool who emerged as much stronger candidates for the top flight crown.

Match 1 – Chelsea v Crystal Palace (3-0) – 14 August 2021

Chelsea started the opening day of the season in style with a 3-0 thumping win over city rivals Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge with the hosts scoring through Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah.

Match 2 – Arsenal v Chelsea (0-2) – 22 August 2021

Another win on the cards for the Blues who made the travels to North London for the derby clash against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal outfit.

Goals from summer recruit Romelu Lukaku and Reece James secured the three points for Chelsea.

Match 3 – Liverpool v Chelsea (1-1) – 28 August 2021

Thomas Tuchel’s men had to share the spoils with top four rivals Liverpool in an evenly contested affair at Anfield with Mohamed Salah’s controversial penalty cancelling out Kai Havertz’s opener.

Match 4 – Chelsea v Aston Villa (3-0) – 11 September 2021

Lukaku worked his magic to bag a brace as Mateo Kovacic scored the third with Chelsea posting a 3-0 win over Aston Villa to claim a third victory in their opening four games.

Match 5 – Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea (0-3) – 19 September 2021

Tuchel’s side looked all set for another convincing display on all fronts, this time around against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, with a 3-0 scoreline.

Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante and Antonio Rudiger were the scorers on the day for the Blues.

Match 6 – Chelsea v Manchester City (0-1) – 25 September 2021

The first defeat of the league campaign for Chelsea with the defending champions Manchester City securing a narrow win thanks to a second half strike from striker Gabriel Jesus.

Match 7 – Chelsea v Southampton (3-1) – 2 October 2021

Chelsea found a quick return to winning ways when they take on Southampton on home turf following the defeat to Manchester City.

Trevoh Chalobah’s opener was cancelled out by Ward Prowse but Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell scored late on in the game to clinch the win for the hosts.

Match 8 – Brentford v Chelsea (0-1) – 16 October 2021

Ben Chilwell’s strike was the only goal of the London derby and seperated the two sides with Chelsea posting another win on the trot.

Match 9 – Chelsea v Norwich City (7-0) – 23 October 2021

A memorable outing for the Blues at Stamford Bridge as they put seven goals past the Premier League new boys Norwich City to secure a thumping win.

Mason Mount was the star performer for his side with the England international netting a brace.

Match 10 – Newcastle United v Chelsea (0-3) – 30 October 2021

Reece James scored twice and midfield maestro Jorginho was clinical as ever from the spot to give their side a 3-0 win on the road to Newcastle United.

Match 11 – Chelsea v Burnley (1-1) – 6 November 2021

A late strike from Burnley striker Vydra cancelled out Kai Havertz’s first half goal to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 stalemate at the Bridge in a game that should have been won by the home side.

Match 12 – Leicester City v Chelsea (0-3) – 20 November 2021

Goals each from Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic ensured the win for Chelsea on their travels to the Midlands for the game against Leicester City.

Match 13 – Chelsea v Manchester United (1-1) – 28 November 2021

The high-billed derby game fizzled out in a 1-1 stalemate with Jorginho’s second half penalty cancelling out Jadon Sancho’s opener to earn both teams a point apeice.

Match 14 – Watford v Chelsea (1-2) – 1 December 2021

Chelsea had to rely upon Hakim Ziyech’s strike in the second period to win them the game after Mason Mount and Dennis had scored early on to set up a game tipped for yet another sharing of spoils.

Match 15 – West Ham United v Chelsea (3-2) – 4 December 2021

West Ham welcomed Chelsea in a high-octane derby affair with both sides putting up a fierce contest but it was the hosts who walked away with the three points with wing-back Masuaku scoring the winner three minutes from time.

Match 16 – Chelsea v Leeds United (3-2) – 11 December 2021

A memorable win for Thomas Tuchel’s side against the Elland Road outfit as the 2-2 scoreline heading into stoppage time turned into a win for the home side courtesy of Jorginho’s spot-kick.

Match 17 – Chelsea v Everton (1-1) – 16 December 2021

The Stamford Bridge showdown did not live up to the hype of the supporters with Mason Mount and Branthwaite scoring after the hour mark as Chelsea had to settle for another draw.

Match 18 – Wolves v Chelsea (0-0) – 19 December 2021

Tuchel’s men failed to find an escape route out of their frustrating run of form with Chelsea held to a goalless stalemate by the home side Wolves.

Match 19 – Aston Villa v Chelsea (1-3) – 26 December 2021

A much-needed return to winning ways for Chelsea was witnessed on their trip to Villa Park with Jorginho’s brace and Lukaku’s second-half strike earning them the win coming from behind after Villa took an early lead.

Match 20 – Chelsea v Brighton (1-1) – 29 December 2021

Former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck came off the bench to salvage a point for his side with a stoppage-time goal as Chelsea dropped valuable points yet again on home turf in their last outing of the calendar year.

Match 21 – Chelsea v Liverpool (2-2) – 2 January 2022

The first game of 2022 saw title challengers Chelsea and Liverpool square off in an evenly contested clash with Chelsea staging a valiant comeback to secure a well-deserved point from their home outing.

Match 22 – Manchester City v Chelsea (1-0) – 15 January 2022

Belgian playmaker De Bruyne’s 70th-minute strike won the game for his side Manchester City with Chelsea unable to offer any attacking impetus on the road to the Premier League holders.

Match 23 – Brighton v Chelsea (1-1) – 18 January 2022 

Brighton came from behind once again to spoil Chelsea’s chances of taking the win after Hakim Ziyech found the back of the net in the first half only for Adam Webster to score around the hour mark.

Match 24 – Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur (2-0) – 23 January 2022 

Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva scored in quick succession to earn Chelsea the three points against North Londoners Spurs with Tuchel’s side staging a return to winning ways.

Match 25 – Crystal Palace v Chelsea (0-1) –19 February 2022 

Another narrow win for the Blues on their travels to Selhurst Park with Hakim Ziyech putting up another brilliant display to score in the dying embers of the game.

Match 26 – Burnley v Chelsea (0-4) – 5 March 2022 

Chelsea put up a convincing display at Turf Moor to secure a 4-0 win thanks to goals from James, Havertz ( a brace) and Pulisic.

Match 27 – Norwich City v Chelsea (1-3) – 10 March 2022 

The league’s new boys Norwich City never really looked to threaten Chelsea despite scoring once through Pukki as the visitors had Chalobah, Mount and Havertz on the scoresheet to win them the game.

Match 28 – Chelsea v Newcastle United (1-0) – 13 March 2022 

An in-form Kai Havertz found the back of the net a minute from full time to earn Chelsea a win of much importance against Newcastle United at the Bridge.

Match 29 – Chelsea v Brentford (1-4) – 2 April 2022 

A shock home outing for Thomas Tuchel and Co. with the Premier League new boys Brentford putting out a masterclass to leave the Bridge with a 4-1 win despite conceding first to Chelsea’s Rudiger.

Match 30 – Southampton v Chelsea (0-6) – 9 April 2022 

Mason Mount and Timo Werner bagged braces while Alonso and Havertz scored once each to ensure a thumping 6-0 win for Chelsea against The Saints.

Match 31 – Chelsea v Arsenal (2-4) – 20 April 2022 

A disappointing showing on home turf for Chelsea who were handed a 4-2 defeat by the high-flying Arsenal in a setback to the former’s hopes of a top four berth in the league table.

Match 32 – Chelsea v West Ham United (1-0) – 24 April 2022 

Bouncing back after the loss to the Gunners, Chrisitan Pulisic scored in stoppage time to win the game for Chelsea and make amends for Jorginho’s 87th minute penalty miss.

Match 33 – Manchester United v Chelsea (1-1) – 28 April 2022 

Antonio Rudiger and Cristiano Ronaldo both found the back of the net in the space of two minutes to salvage a point each for their sides in the Old Trafford showdown.

Match 34 – Everton v Chelsea (1-0) – 1 May 2022 

Relegation candidates Everton claimed a major win over Chelsea with Brazil international Richarlision scoring in the opening exchanges of the second period to secure the three points for the home side at Goodison Park.

Match 35 – Chelsea v Wolves (2-2) – 7 May 2022 

A shoddy defensive display from Chelsea saw them concede a two-goal lead to Wolves after Lukaku’s brace had them set for an important win on home turf but the visitors replied through Trincao and Coady to earn a point.

Match 36 – Leeds United v Chelsea (0-3) – 11 May 2022 

Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku scored to hand Chelsea a 3-0 win away at Leeds United and gain ground in their attempts to secure Champions League football for the next season.

Match 37 – Chelsea v Leicester City (1-1) – 19 May 2022 

Marcos Alonso’s strike before the halftime break could earn Chelsea only a point with Leicester City putting up a solid display to leave the Bridge with a draw.

Match 38 – Chelsea v Watford (2-1) – 22 May 2022 

Thomas Tuchel’s men finished the season in style with Ross Barkley’s stoppage-time header ensuring the win for the home side against the relegated Watford outfit.
