Pundits were too quick to criticize Chelsea’s German winger, Kai Havertz after a few rusty displays to start his Chelsea career. But he quickly responded all of them with a fantastic display in the EFL Cup tonight against Barnsley with a hat-trick.
Havertz’s three-goal outburst is his first hattrick in senior professional football. It came at the right time in his career when the pressure at his new club was mounting on him gradually. He had terrible performances in his previous two outings against Brighton and Liverpool following his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.

Although Barnsley isn’t a top-class opponent and their defenders left plenty of room for Havertz to operate in the final third, but credit should be given for his impressive finishing. The winger often led Chelsea’s pressing and worked hard throughout by tracking back and forth to make his overall night an outstanding outing.
His work ethic didn’t go unnoticed to Chelsea’s coach, Frank Lampard too. He praised Havertz for his off-the-ball movements in his post-match interview.
He seemed very elated in his post-match conference and talked about how determined he is to score more goals in the same way for the club.
“I’m very happy to score three goals but of course it’s my beginning here at the club and I want to score more goals. This is my goal and I’ll try to do my best and I’m very happy to score three goals today and I hope to continue like that,” said Kai.
Havertz has already produced a performance that has undoubtedly silenced those who were questioning his impact. It has just been three matches for the german and looking at the players yet to join the squad, it’s unimaginable how ruthless he can be.
