Chelsea’s one player could have prevented the fourth round Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham according to Tommy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Chelsea was in lead for much of the game after Timo Werner’s scored a brilliant goal from just outside the penalty box. But late in the 83rd minute, Tottenham Hotspurs’s Erik Lamela scored from left-back Sergio Reguilon’s cross. The equalizer could have prevented if Emerson Palmieri carried out his responsibility.
Spurs took the game to the penalties where they won 5-4 to progress in the next round. Chelsea’s youngster Mason Mount was the player to miss the only penalty.
But as per Daily Star reports, Hasselbaink thinks otherwise. He is of the opinion that Chelsea shouldn’t have lost if no error was committed by Emerson. The Chelsea defender could have sprinted back on time to his position and that cross could have well blocked as per him.
“So poor a goal to concede. Emerson has the time to run back and make it a four,” he said.
“Just sprint back! You see the danger and if he sprints back he would intercept the ball.
He also compares the player with new summer arrival from Leicester City, Ben Chilwell, and says that if it was Ben it could have prevented.
“If Chilwell was there, he would have got back, intercepted the ball and made the clearance.”
He also says that Kurt Zouma should have cleared it as the ball flew past near to him.
“Zouma also should have got the ball but it happens time and time again with Chelsea with individual mistakes.”
