Graham Potter has said he wants Mason Mount’s contract standoff ‘resolved quickly’ with uncertainity growing over the playmaker’s future with the Blues.
Mount has entered the final 18 months of his current terms at Stamford Bridge but with the England midfielder holding out for a major bump in wages, there has been talk of other clubs across England keeping tabs on his situation.
Chelsea, however, remain keen to tie him to a long-term deal similar to the one signed by Mount’s club and country teammate Reece James, and Potter insisted in his recent pre-match presser that he is hopeful of the contract talks coming to a close soon.
“I think it is always complicated. There is always negotiation. It is best that I leave it between Mason and the club.
“That’s the best way for that to be dealt with. As far as I’m concerned, he’s been fantastic to work with, an important player for us. Of course I hope it gets resolved quickly.”
Juventus and Atletico Madrid are the European bigwigs credited with an interest in the 24-year-old Chelsea star Mount while Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the mix.
Little progress over an extension for Mount in recent months has added to the speculation that the player could be looking to move on despite his love for Chelsea where he came through the youth ranks before his first senior breakthrough back in 2019.
