Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has insisted that out-of-favour striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a future with Chelsea despite the latter heavily linked with a move to the MLS.
Aubameyang was subject to serious interest from the American side Los Angeles FC but the former Arsenal talisman rebuffed a switch to the Stateside and instead fight for a place in the Chelsea camp.
With Chelsea spending big in the Janaury transfer window to recruit new attackers in Joao Felix, David Datro Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk, there had been rumors doing the rounds that Aubameyang was in line to be deemed surplus to requirements.
His omission from the Chelsea squad for the knockout stages of the Champions League had come as a shock to the 33-year-old who recently returned to training with the Blues amid speculation rife over his future at the club.
As reported by The Guardian, the Chelsea manager Potter admitted that despite the heavy competition for berths in the front line, Aubameyang’s situation at the Bridge was not “terminal” and he had impressed in training since his return.
“In my job every player while they are here is important.
“Every player should understand their situation and be treated with respect and then it’s their decision how to act and he has acted fantastically. He really has.
“We have got João, we have Kai, we have got David. We thought we wanted to get more of a look at them in the short term. But that’s not to say it’s a terminal situation for Pierre. We had to be honest with him and give him time. That was why he was out of the previous match. But while he is here it’s not to say that will always be the case.”
