Former Liverpool superstar Graeme Souness has revealed that Chelsea star Eden Hazard is the best player in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has been absolutely incredible as they sit at the summit of the Premier League at the moment. Manchester City, who is second, follows them closely with 41 points. Liverpool is also the only unbeaten side in the Premier League this season after City were handed their first defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend. After enduring a slow start to the season, Liverpool talisman best, Mohamed Salah, seems to have found his goalscoring touch again.
The Egyptian has scored 13 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions. Salah scored 4 in his last 2 games, and it was his goal in the must-win game against Napoli that ensured Liverpool a spot in the Round of 16.
The 26-year-old Salah is also the joint top scorer (with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) in the Premier League with 10 goals. However, former Liverpool legend Graeme Souness feels that Salah is still not the best player in the English Premier League.
While speaking to Sky Sports, the Scotsman said that Salah is a goalscorer but would prefer Eden Hazard over the Liverpool star, “He (Salah) is fabulous but it’s only his second year. Come back in five years. When you talk about those Liverpool greats, they had players who won everything. Some great team men, great goalscorers, longevity. This is only Salah’s second season but I do believe he has the potential to be in that category. If I could take one it would be Eden Hazard. I think Salah will be a better goalscorer but in terms of all-around play [Hazard].”
Statistically and surprisingly, Salah and Hazard are close to going neck-to-neck with each other. Salah has been directly involved in 18 goals this term (13 goals and 5 assists), while Hazard has been involved in 16 goals (8 goals and 8 assists) in fewer appearances.
