Blues forward Olivier Giroud has opened up for the first time since his failed move away from Chelsea in the January transfer window, claiming that he is focused on his playing time as well as the club’s targets for the remainder of the season.
The 33-year-old is currently targeting his chance to represent the national team France in the upcoming Euros this summer but has failed to gain regular football under Lampard which has put his future at the club in some jeopardy.
Giroud made the switch from North London outfit Arsenal for West London side Chelsea in January 2018 and has played a key role in the Blues’ FA Cup and Europa League triumphs.
With 11 goals in 14 games across Europe’s second-tier competition, Giroud’s record was second to none and it seemed quite certain that he would be a constant player under the 41-year-old Lampard when the Englishman took charge of Chelsea in the summer.
Unfortunately, Giroud has been dropped from the Chelsea squad more often than not under Lampard’s rein and is currently behind the youthful duo of Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order. The World Cup winner was widely reported to be moving to Serie A club Inter Milan in the winter transfer market, but the Italian giants pulled the plug on a potential deal at the last minute.
Giroud has just one goal in seven appearances thus far and the veteran forward has lifted the lid on his current situation and stated that he is looking forward to playing as much as he can for Chelsea and help them achieve their aims for the season.
While Speaking to the club’s official website, Giroud expressed his desire to give everything for the team, “I’m a Chelsea player so now I need to move on and look forward. I want to give everything for the team and it’s a personal target for me to play as much as I can to play the Euros with my country. Right now, I’m 100 percent focused on Chelsea’s targets and I want to keep fighting to come back on to the team sheet and the scoresheet. Every single game is a big opportunity for me to show my desire to do that.
