Gary Neville issued high praise for Chelsea defensive duo Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah following the 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday for Thomas Tuchel’s men
Both players were handed rare starts in top flight action with Tuchel having to deal with the absence of key duo Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva ahead of the weekend’s visit to the Premier League’s new boys Brentford.
It was a narrow win for the Blues against the newly-promoted side with Ben Chilwell’s screamer of a strike late on in the first half securing the three points for the table-toppers.
Sarr and Chalobah put out solid displays in the heart of the three-man defence for the west Londoners and they were subject to a lavish round of praise from player-turned-pundit Gary Neville in his statements to Sky Sports ( via Metro)
The former Manchester United full-back admitted that Sarr and Chalobah had exceeded expectations with their dominant showing at the back as Neville drew comparisons between Arsenal’s shambolic performance against Brentford earlier in this season.
“They did really really well, that was as tough a game as you can have as a centre back.”
“I saw Arsenal’s centre-backs here get absolutely messed about by those two. So for Chalobah and Sarr to come here today with a lot of expectation, I think they can be really proud tonight.”
‘That’s as tough as it gets in the Premier League. You have to come through those moments. It was long throws, free kicks, sustained attacks they did really well.’
