Chelsea prevented an away game stalemate against Fulham as they defeated the home side 1-0 in the London Derby. Mason Mount scored a late winner to clinch an unimpressive victory against the 10-men Fulham.
Chelsea visited Fulham with no victories in their previous occasion of Premier League and was under intense pressure. They although won 4-0 against Morecambe in the FA Cup but that wasn’t enough.
The Blues were better in ball possession but didn’t show any dominance against their opponents. There was a chance here and there until in the 44th minute of the match, Antonee Robinson was shown a red card which gave the Blues an edge over Fulham.
Robinson tackled Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilcueta in an attempt to kick the ball and completely missed it, which immediately got him sent off just before halftime.
The Blues had a quick session of continued attack as Fulham keeper Areola was alert enough to stop Rudiger and Giroud’s shot. Being one man down, it became difficult for them but that didn’t help Chelsea.
Chelsea’s brief dominance eventually faded away until Mason Mount struck a low volley that went inside the net in the 78th minute of the game to ensure all three points.
