Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais are eyeing a move for young Chelsea FC center-back Fikayo Tomori ahead of next season. It would be the first time in the French club’s history that they would be competing in the Champions League for the 2020-21 campaign.
The Blues have been on the hunt for a central defender this summer as well. Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard is believed to have made Atletico Madrid star Jose Maria Gimenez his top priority signing for the current transfer window.
However, Lampard has been told by the club’s board to offload a current first-team center-back to accommodate Gimenez’s potential arrival at Stamford Bridge later this summer, according to reports.
The 22-year old Tomori has been courted for a loan deal by Rennais. The Ligue 1 side have enquired about the English international’s availability this summer on a temporary stint away from the Blues. The Chelsea FC center-back has enjoyed a great first season at the club following his 2018-19 season being on loan at Derby County.
Having made 22 appearances across this league campaign, Tomori has been a consistent performer for Lampard’s side. The defender also penned a new five-year deal with his boyhood club after impressing both his coach and Chelsea FC supporters with his displays on the pitch.
