Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa showed how important their veteran striker, Olivier Giroud is. Manager Frank Lampard put six new players from the starting XI that played against Arsenal. He was compelled to put his Frenchman in place of his underperforming striker, Timo Werner in the game.
But looks like, Giroud is still the best man up front to score goals when the team needs the most ahead of Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner. He scored the only goal that gave Chelsea the lead in the game against Aston Villa in the first half.
The French striker although down below the likes of Werner has now played five games and has netted seven goals in all the competitions for the Blues. Lampard once again spoke high of Giroud and his excellent finishing abilities in the final third.
‘If you’re going to deliver for Oli in the right areas, he gets in the position and he gets really good contact on the ball and that’s why he’s scored goals. That’s why he’s been a regular scorer wherever he’s been. He did for us today, he’s done it for us this season and he did it for us in the restart,’ said Lampard as per the Chelsea Official Website.
‘I liked Callum’s performance today and I liked his range of passing, which was very evident in the first half. A couple of great crossfield balls and some of his movement and touches were great.
‘The obvious next part is end product because what we want to see from Callum, and I think he did it against Arsenal when he came on, is to be confident to go one-on-one because he has the ability to do it. That, and to get crosses in as he did for Tammy, and to get goals and to arrive in the box, because that’s the level of top wingers in the Premier League.’
He even praised Callum Hudson Odoi’s passing abilities and his final touches on the ball. The coach is assured that the great finishing product will come gradually and would help Chelsea in the remainder of the season coming ahead.
Chelsea has been struggling recently as they have collected just four points from their last four games and have gone down the Premier league table.
