Frank Lampard speaks out on Willian’s injury prior to Wolves game

Frank Lampard has revealed that it was an injury that kept Willian out of Chelsea FC’s final game of the Premier League season. The Brazilian attacker was widely expected to feature in the Blues’ encounter against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard stated that due to an injury sustained by Willian, he had to readjust his lineup. In-form winger Christian Pulisic came in for the injured Blues’ ace, having impressed in recent weeks with his goalscoring ability.

The game against Wolves could have been Willian’s last game as a Chelsea FC player. The 31-year old’s current deal with the club expires at the end of the 2019-20 season. So far, the player has been unable to negotiate a contract extension with the Blues.

Before the game kicked off, Willian took to social media, sharing a photo of him receiving treatment on his injury. The caption for the 31-year old’s Twitter post was a message from the player supporting his teammates on the pitch. The game at Stamford Bridge was very crucial for Chelsea FC, considering that even a draw against Wolves would guarantee them Champions League football next season.

The Blues ultimately secured a 2-0 victory over Wolves, ensuring their qualification for Europe’s premier club competition. However, it is still unclear whether Willian will be a part of the Chelsea FC squad that competes in next season’s Champions League. The Brazilian international’s future at Stamford Bridge remains a major uncertainty amid interest in the player from other clubs.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, and FC Barcelona continue to be linked with making a move for the 31-year old winger. Following his Chelsea FC contract’s expiry, Willian will be made available to other sides on a free transfer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are in pole position to land the Brazilian’s signature with the North London based outfit already having opened talks with the player’s representatives.

Willian has publicly affirmed his desire of extending his six-year stay at Chelsea FC further. However, the 31-year old is known to be holding out for a three-year deal to be offered to him by the club, with the Blues management being eager to tabling a two-year extension at most.
