Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted that he was frustrated as “basic errors” saw the Blues twice surrender their lead against 10-men Arsenal to earn a point in a 2-2 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Italian midfielder Jorginho opened the scoring for Chelsea converting from the penalty spot in the 28th minute after David Luiz was shown a red card for a foul on Tammy Abraham inside the box, after a sloppy back pass from Shkodran Mustafi.
Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli sprinted from well inside his own half to score a classy counter-attacking goal just after the hour mark, but Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta looked to have clinched all three points for the hosts when he turned home Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross with only six minutes remaining on the clock.
However, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin made his first side for the North London side in over six weeks and got the better of a hobbling Abraham finding the bottom-left corner in the 87th minute to earn a point for the visitors.
Following the game the 41-year-old Lampard went on to explain that he was disappointed with the result but also revealed that the club should improve to reduce the errors, “I am disappointed given the situation of the game. We completely deserved to go 1-0 up. For a little bit after that we were getting used to them with 10 men, We created enough in the second half, it was the same story for us that we don’t finish our chances and we made errors to give them two goals on the break. It probably shows where we are at. These sorts of things don’t lie.”
