The Blues manager Frank Lampard admitted that change had to occur at Chelsea after he was fired from the team in 2021.
The former Chelsea player served as the Blues’ permanent manager from the summer of 2019 until January 2021. However, he was let go after a string of defeats.
Since then, the club has undergone many changes, including the ownership after Roman Abramovich sold Chelsea to American billionaire Todd Boehly in a deal worth several billion pounds.
The new owner has already invested hundreds of millions of dollars into the team as part of his efforts to change the Blues’ fortunes on the pitch. At Stamford Bridge, Boehly and Clearlake Capital have spent more than £600 million on fresh signings in just two transfer windows.
Since there has been so much upheaval, the club lacks consistency, which is something that premier teams in Europe typically have. However, Lampard feels that during his first stint as head coach at the club, some things had to change.
As reported by the Football London, he said:
“In terms of the change I haven’t been here for that so I don’t want to casually comment on ‘ifs’ and ‘why’. All I can speak about is what I came into.
“We obviously have a big squad which I think was done for all the right intentions but of course to manage that and get a really tight, connected unit which is the first thing in post.”
“In certain areas and if I am honest as well, some change had to happen. “We are not there yet. I is a process so those things need to be continued to be worked on.”
Chelsea finally tasted success after so many defeats by overcoming Bournemouth by a 3-1 scoreline. The Blues will not be able to taste European football next season as they are already placed in the 11th spot of the league table but they can at least try to close the season on a positive note.

Boehly and his team would have a big task of changing things around in the upcoming transfer window. They have already signed a number of players and we believe that it would be wise for Chelsea if they work on their team chemistry rather than spending unnecessarily.
Lampard’s future at Stamford Bridge is also not fixed and it remains to be seen whether the club prefers to keep him or sign a new permanent manager.
