Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has urged the club to sign experienced senior players like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to improve their on-field performances drastically.
The Blues led by American billionaire Todd Boehly have heavily invested in youngsters in the past two years. The majority of the players that they have roped in are all aged below 23 years. With more than £ 1 billion spent on youngsters, they have failed to recoup the profit through their performances over the past few seasons.
Koulibaly and Thiago Silva were the only senior players who were roped in during Boehly’s reign. But, the club needs more world-class experienced players to guide the youngsters in the squad.

Former striker Cole believes that the West London side needs to follow Real Madrid’s strategy and bring players like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos to help their youngsters.
While talking to Talk SPORT, Cole said:
“I’d be looking to bring in some experienced players maybe to set the tone. Does Luka Modric want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year?”
“He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid. How much has he helped Camavinga, Tchouameni, Valverde? He would have had such an influence on them as players.”
“Toni Kroos is 34 but does he want to test himself at his age, coming over here and helping out this young squad.”
Does Chelsea need to change their transfer strategy to win accolades next season?
Chelsea have been quite underwhelming this season as they are placed in the 11th position in the PL table. They were in a similar place last season and it can be seen that they have not received instant success by signing youngsters.
Searching for bright players should be a natural apatite for any club but depending solely on these players might not work in the long run. Mauricio Pochettino will demand time to make things work and Boehly could help him achieve his targets by getting senior players this summer. Modric and Kroos have done a commendable job by staying loyal to Madrid and dedicating themselves towards improving the younger players in the club.

Players like Bellingham, Valverde, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Vinicius and Rodrygo Goes have come out of the shadows to become world-beaters.
The Blues need similar senior stars to guide their youngsters and improve their status in the English league. A lack of flexibility in decision-making can make matters worse in the years to come.
