Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Nicholas has advised Frank Lampard’s team to snap up a deal for Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Chelsea has had a relatively great start to the new campaign under Lampard’s first year in charge of the club. Despite a few sketchy results of late, the West London side is still in the top four in the race for securing Champions League qualification.
With French attacker Olivier Giroud almost certain to leave at the end of the season, Chelsea has been advised to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic as a potential replacement for the 33-year-old World Cup winner.
Edouard signed for the Scottish Premier League champions in the summer of 2018 and has been in a rich vein of goalscoring form netting 58 times in 119 appearances so far. The 22-year-old PSG youth product has already scored 24 goals this campaign notching up seven assists as well and given his excellent form, Nicholas believes that Edouard is ready to play in the Premier League.
The 58-year-old former Scottish international explained that Celtic forward Edouard should make the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, ‘Odsonne Edouard is good enough to go and play at a Chelsea or a Manchester United, ‘I say that with some confidence. I think he could go into both their squads and make a real impact. That is how much ability he has. It is up to him how far he wants to go in his career. The sky’s the limit. ‘Why have I picked these clubs? Because they have both been linked with his former Celtic striker partner Moussa Dembele in recent months. ‘For me, Edouard is a better footballer than the Lyon striker and his fellow Frenchman. He is absolutely nailed on to win the [Scottish] Player of the Year award in my opinion.’
