Chelsea can hijack midfielder, Thomas Partey’s deal before Arsenal reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been a prime target for Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta for one month as they try to shape their midfield for the coming season. But the Gunners have failed to reach an agreement with Diego Simeone’s Atletico, who wants €50m (£45.3m) for the deal to be completed.
Lampard’s Chelsea, on the other hand, has been backed by the owner, Roman Abramovich who has till now spent around £250m on the likes of Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner. With the money, they have overhauled the current squad but have failed to plug the hole which has resulted in goals in recent matches just like the previous season.
With Thomas Party still waiting to take an exit from the Spanish side, Chelsea can splash some cash and bring in Thomas Party to fix the defensive side of the team. This has been backed as well by Rio Ferdinand who thinks signing Partey can protect a defence that has been criticized time in and time out.
“I think a huge thing for them is to stop conceding goals.
“I think Frank would have looked at it last season and three of the back four that will be playing today are new players.
“He’ll have seen that, a lot of goals conceded and I think the most conceded in 22 years at the club. More importantly we reports today of Partey coming in in that central area,” said Ferdinand as per The Chelsea Chronicle article.
“I don’t think he’s happy with the likes of Kovacic or Jorginho. You can see that because he’s chopping and changing in those positions.
“Getting someone like that in to protect the back four or five along with Kante goes a long way to nulifying the goals against.”
Lampard’s side conceded 54 goals last season and the defense has been criticized heavily by the fans and pundits. Although on Saturday, the Blues has kept a clean sheet in their 4-0 win over Crystal Palace with Edouard Mendy on goal.
