Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea want to keep Thiago Silva beyond the summer when the veteran centre-back’s contract is up for renewal.
Silva was immense in his showing as Chelsea kept a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw away to Liverpool on Saturday with the Brazilian defender stepping up to put out a terrific display at back for Graham Potter’s side.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man, however, is out of contract at Stamford Bridge come the end of the season and there has been speculation over Chelsea’s interest in retaining the services of the 37-year-old.
Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Chelsea have recently been tipped as one of the contenders to move in for Silva in the summer window with the Reds looking to bolster their leaky backline by signing Silva should he head into free agency.
Transfer guru Romano, while speaking to CBS Sport, has suggested that the west London giant are close to opening talks with Silva over a new deal which would ensure him staying put with Chelsea for another year.
“So, I expect them to have more conversations with Thiago Silva in the next weeks. In the Chelsea board, they love Thiago Silva. So, I think he has a chance to continue.”
