Ex-Italy striker Antonio Cassano aims a dig at Chelsea returnee Romelu Lukaku

Ex-Italy striker Antonio Cassano has aimed a dig at Chelsea returnee Romelu Lukaku who signed for Thomas Tuchel’s side this summer in a mega-money transfer.

Lukaku, who got his life back in England’s top flight off to a flying start in front of the goal, has endured struggles of late with a drought that has stretched for the last three league outings now.

Across all competitions, Lukaku has failed to find the back of the net across six of his past games with questions being asked of the 28-year-old who arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer to much fanfare.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has insisted that he retains faith in this summer signing’s ability out there on the pitch following the Brentford clash last weekend with Tuchel backing Lukaku to bounce back soon.

Antonio Cassano, however, seemed unconvinced while talking on Twitch ( via The Sun) that Lukaku will be returning to his usual best on the attacking front with the former Inter Milan forward claiming that the Belgian was struggling to get his act together in the Premier League.

“Lukaku is struggling, he clings to the defender, and it’s his teammates who go looking for him.

“Tuchel doesn’t have to learn from [Antonio] Conte how to make Lukaku play; a coach shouldn’t dare to say things like that to someone who has won what he has won.

“Tuchel, though, could take all kinds of strikers, but Lukaku has nothing to do with his idea of the game; at PSG, at Dortmund, he had different strikers.

“When you play with Conte 50 metres from the goal, it’s easy, and then playing in Italy is another thing.

“In England, you have animals defending; in England, he struggles because Lukaku doesn’t have that kind of characteristics.

“Chelsea are distorting themselves to get Lukaku into the game, it’s Lukaku who has to follow Chelsea’s idea, but he doesn’t have the characteristics Tuchel wants.”
