Former Chelsea player Essien backs Frank Lampard to find the right formula for the team

Chelsea’s former midfielder, Michael Essien has openly supported Frank Lampard to find the right balance for his Chelsea at Chelsea after a shaky start to the season.

Lampard’s side has just secured three wins from a total of nine games in all competitions to start the new 2020 season. This has led to some serious questions on whether Lampard is the right man for the west London club or not.

The defence has failed to find solidarity as it has been seen over the couple of previous weeks where they blew up a 2-0 goal lead to draw 3-3 with Southampton.

Essien who played with the Chelsea legend, Lampard for nine years at Stamford Bridge asks the club and the fans to be patient in their major squad overhauling season. He is convinced that the time will surely come for Chelsea if Lampard could find the right recipe for the team and that will be his biggest challenge.

“He [Lampard] is Chelsea, he knows the club inside out and what needs to be done,” Essien said in a Goal interview.

“He will get the help of everyone there and I think so far that he has done a good job.

“Last season was a good achievement and it isn’t an easy place to manage. The fans can demand a lot so it isn’t easy, and he is doing his best.

“Football is full of ups and downs, you have to understand that. Get behind the team instead of not being happy after every bad result.

“The job is not easy so you have to be patient and push the team, then hopefully they will do well. They have added good players so they will have to deliver as a lot is expected now.

The Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich spent a hefty sum of over £220 million ($287m) to land in talented players like Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell at Stamford Bridge.

But in spite of that, there has been a mixed start from the men in Blue. The coach has struggled to find his ideal balance for his team to combine some of the world’s exciting prospects together and form a lethal Chelsea squad.
