Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has rejected an initial proposal from suitors Chelsea who are eager to sign him before the transfer window deadline on Tuesday night.
The Blues are very much in the market for a new signing to freshen things up in the centre of the park but despite their heavy spending this month, with six incomings to bolster Graham Potter’s squad, midfield remains an area the manager is looking to reinforce.
Onana only signed for the Merseyside Blues in the summer but following the sacking of Frank Lampard as the head coach, the former was reported missing from training amid rumours that a potential departure could be on the cards for the young Belgian midfielder in the final days of the January window.
According to a report from The Telegraph, it is claimed that there has been resistance from Graham Potter’s players for a swap deal with the relegation-threatened Everton in a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of signing the 21-year-old Onana as well as to Everton who are on the search of reinforcements for their squad.
Chelsea have been linked with several midfielders over the course of this month but have failed to get a deal past the finish line, notably the much-anticipated one to land Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
