Chelsea has named Enzo Maresca as their new head coach for the 2024–2025 campaign. With an optional one-year extension, the Italian has signed a five-year contract with Stamford Bridge after leaving Leicester City.
Mauricio Pochettino who left by mutual consent will be replaced by Maresca. Though formal confirmation is still awaited, Maresca has begun preparations for the upcoming season. Tosin Adarabioyo is anticipated to sign for Chelsea on a free transfer bringing the team closer to their first summer acquisition.
In spite of the managerial change and transfer activity, Chelsea has been the subject of a lot of rumors and reports in the last 24 hours.
Maresca’s First Assignment
Chelsea’s first task under new head coach Maresca will be to lift the mood of the players, the Guardian reports. After Pochettino’s departure some veteran players are apparently doubting the club’s direction.
Many players were happy under Pochettino and are upset about his departure even though Chelsea had a strong season-ending performance that saw them qualify for Europe and finish in sixth place.

There was reportedly discord in the team as a result of the frequent rumors regarding managerial changes after Pochettino’s departure which held the team in doubt of their future.
Maresca may not have been the most obvious choice to lead Chelsea going forward but his brief spell at Leicester City demonstrated his ability to win over squad’s confidence. His strong man-management abilities were evident when he kept several players who had originally wanted to leave Leicester after they were demoted to the Championship.
Though every team is different, Maresca will need to gain the confidence and support of the Chelsea players after they were under the management of a well-liked predecessor. He has to be able to work through these situations and carry out his plan if he is to succeed at Chelsea.
Transfer Setback
According to ESPN, Chelsea is also supposedly trailing Manchester United in the competition to sign Michael Olise, a star winger for Crystal Palace. Unhappy by no Champions League football, the 22-year-old has been identified by the Red Devils as a major target this summer.

Even though negotiations are not very far along Chelsea can still take action. Chelsea activated Olise’s release clause in the summer of last year but the player ultimately decided not to transfer. Chelsea may need to move quickly if they want to sign the gifted forward as Manchester United heightens their pursuit.
Enzo Maresca’s ability to resolve player concerns and successfully navigate the transfer market will be critical as he gets ready to take over at Chelsea. His early success at Stamford Bridge will depend on how well he balances signing strategic players and team morale.
