Enzo Fernandez’s father asks Chelsea to let his son play in an attacking position

Raul Fernandez, the father of Enzo Fernandez, has appealed to Chelsea to give his son the opportunity to play in a more attacking position.

Since his arrival at the club, the Argentine has predominantly been deployed as a defensive midfielder, which has restricted his creative abilities in the midfield.

However, Fernandez has previous experience playing in a more advanced role, both for Argentina and SL Benfica in recent times.

The father of Enzo Fernandez believes that his son has showcased his midfield qualities and has the ability to provide valuable contributions on the field.

He suggests that other midfielders at the club have struggled to find synergy with the World Cup-winning player.

In an interview, the father expressed his thoughts on Fernandez’s versatility and emphasized the need for him to be utilized strategically during matches. He also touched upon his son’s experiences living in London.

As reported by the Express, he said:

“Enzo is comfortable, happy, and adjusting to London. He was happy about the arrival of Pochettino. Next season? My son wants to be a champion. I think we will see Enzo play further forward! He was going to ask [Pochettino] to play further advanced.”

The potential arrival of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion could greatly benefit the 22-year-old midfielder, allowing him to play in a more advanced position while sharing defensive responsibilities with Caicedo.

Known for his creativity and ability to distribute long passes to create scoring opportunities, Fernandez is better suited as a number 8 rather than a number 6.

However, due to the absence of a defensive midfielder to cover for him, he has been deployed in a deeper role, limiting his innovative capabilities.

If Chelsea successfully signs Caicedo or another midfielder capable of assuming defensive duties, Fernandez will have greater freedom to operate in midfield. It is crucial, though, that Fernandez seamlessly fits into any system employed by the team.

While he may not possess exceptional speed and has occasionally been slow in tracking back, this aspect of his game can be developed under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino in the upcoming years.
