English international John Stones has caught the eye of Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard who is on the lookout to improve his defensive unit at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are in dire need of quality options at center-back on the back of a horrid display of defensive abilities last season.
The 26-year old Stones has surprisingly fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City in recent times. Pep Guardiola has preferred to start teenage center-back, Eric Garcia, over the much more experienced Stones.
The former Everton man could be a fantastic signing for the Blues if Lampard does go ahead and make a move for the player this summer. Stones is likely to get less first-team involvement next season as well for the Citizens owing to Nathan Ake’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium.
The center-back featured in just 16 Premier League games last season for his side. Moreover, Guardiola chose to bench the English international for Manchester City’s Champions League commitments as well across the club’s 2019-20 season.
According to recent speculation, Chelsea FC would attempt to sign the Manchester City defender on a season-long loan. The loan bid to be tabled by the Blues shall also include an obligation to buy the player come next summer.
