Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri speaks on how important the FA Cup win was for the team

Chelsea’s, Emerson Palmieri feels that the 4-0 victory against the League 2 side, Morecambe in the FA Cup was very much required to the team. The Blues has been going through unpleasant results lately and returning back to winning ways instilled confidence back to the squad.

The Blues eased past to the next round of FA Cup quite comfortably with dominance as Timo Werner, mason Mount, Callum Hudson Odoi and Kai Havertz each contributed to the scoresheet.

Emerson got his chance as manager Frank Lampard rotated his squad, giving some rest to key players in the backline. It was a chance for Emerson to shine and he did too. He was ready for the opportunity as he knew that his time has come when the manager will ask him to play the FA Cup match.

‘I feel good because I’m training hard every day, I’m always ready when the manager puts me on the pitch and I try to do my best,’ said the Italy international as per Chelsea’s Official website.

‘The game yesterday was very important for us because in the last game we lost. So the most important thing was to have a solid game and get the victory as we did.’

Emerson even contributed by going forward against Morecambe. He attempted in many instances from outside the edge of the opposition penalty box. As Callum Hudson gave width to the left flank, Emerson exploited the space by running into those spaces directly. Hudson Odoi’s staying in between the lines allowed Emerson to overlap.

‘I tried three times, it didn’t happen in this game, but I’m happy for the team and the result,’ he added.

‘Callum, Hakim or Christian, they like to stay between the lines, so for me, I have the space for the overlap. Or yesterday, Callum stayed high more with me inside, so this is a good connection. It depends on the opponent and we try to move the defenders.’

Although he was disappointed to not get his name in the scoreline, he complimented the wingers who connected with him comfortably on the left-hand side of the pitch,
