Chelsea and Frank Lampard were handed a major boost with midfielder N’golo Kante and left-back Emerson returning to first-team training ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
N’golo Kante has missed a large part of Chelsea’s start to the season with an ankle injury and was last seen in the club’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City last month. The 28-year-old was impressive when Chelsea last played Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup and Lampard will want him fit on Sunday.
“He still has issues with his ankle,” Lampard revealed. “The medical team are working with him. He is in a transition period and we are trying to get him on the pitch.
“He is doing some physical work but this game comes too soon for him.
“Hopefully he is close. I don’t want to jump the gun because we are waiting for improvements for that final step to get him where we want him to be on the pitch.”
Emerson who also missed Chelsea’s games against Wolves and Valencia after suffering an injury while on international duty with Italy took part in the training session and will be part of the squad to face Liverpool. Marcos Alonso who replaced Emerson in the team will feel unlucky to be out of the team after good performances against Wolves and Valencia, however, Alonso might keep his place in the side if Lampard decides to go with a three at the back.
A negative for Chelsea will be Mason Mount’s absence in training. The England international picked up an injury in the game against Valencia after a strong tackle from Ex-Arsenal man Francis Coquelin and is a doubt for the clash against Liverpool.
Antonio Rudiger was also absent after picking up an injury in Chelsea’s 5-2 victory against Wolves last Saturday.
