Dimitar Berbatov has cautioned that it’s too soon to make definitive judgments about Nicolas Jackson, despite his hat trick for Chelsea against Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Man United striker stated that we shouldn’t overlook the fact that Spurs had two players sent off during the match.
Jackson netted three goals as Chelsea dominated Tottenham with a 4-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The match featured red cards for Cristian Romero in the 33rd minute and Destiny Udogie in the 55th minute.
While Jackson, the Senegal international striker, has scored six goals in 13 games for Chelsea this season, Berbatov believes that while the hat-trick is a confidence booster, he downplays the 22-year-old’s exceptional performance against Spurs.
Berbatov shared his thoughts on Chelsea’s victory over his former club in an interview:
“That hat trick is going to be good for Nicolas Jackson. He’s stating his position by saying, ‘I can be the No.9 for Chelsea’ – but it’s still early days for him. He needs to continue to work hard to get scoring opportunities.”
“Sometimes when he gets in a good scoring opportunity, his shot on goal is missing. The Tottenham game will be good for his confidence, although we can’t forget that it was 11 vs 9, so it was easy for him to get those scoring opportunities.”
Jackson will be aiming to score once more when Chelsea resumes play on Sunday, hosting the reigning champions, Manchester City, at Stamford Bridge.
The African ace needs to continue his goal-scoring momentum if he wants to secure his place in the starting XI.

The Blues are under increasing pressure due to the club’s poor attacking threat and if Jackson fails to catch up then the club might find a new striker.
Nkunku’s return could also pressure other attackers to fight for their spots. The 22-year-old could gain more attention if he gets on the scoresheet against Man City on Sunday.
