West Ham manager David Moyes is aware of the speculation around Declan Rice with a move away from the club and says he would ask for Chelsea’s highly-rated teenager Billy Gilmour instead.
There has been no official approach from the west London outfit when it comes to an England international star who remains on the books of a local London rival club. However, West Ham star Declan Rice is well known among the Blues having spent a number of years in their academy system as a youth player.
The 21-year-old Englishman, Rice, is now a Premier League star and has sparked talk of big-money bids being tabled by ambitious clubs in the Premier League that are seeking further reinforcement in the centre of the park.
Although Hammers’ manager Moyes has no plans to allow Rice to leave the London Stadium, the 57-year-old has joked that he would look to land Chelsea’s starlet Billy Gilmour if any approach were to be received from Frank Lampard’s side
Moyes is reportedly a big fan of his fellow Scot, Billy Gilmour, who has burst onto the scene in the 2019-20 campaign as a precociously-gifted 18-year-old midfielder.
While speaking to BBC, Moyes stated that he would be prepared to trade Declan Rice with Chelsea star Billy Gilmour following the impressive displays of the teenager in the games leading up to the halt in football, “The one [Scottish player] who if I could sign tomorrow I would is Billy Gilmour after his opening performances for Chelsea. He’s looked like a seasoned pro, he’s looked like somebody who’s hungry, who’s in love with the game I was laughing because I keep getting told that Chelsea wants Declan Rice, so I thought well I might just decide I want Billy Gilmour and see how it goes.”
Chelsea remains in fourth place on the Premier League table and the Blues remain in the hunt for a Champions League berth for next season. Frank Lampard is in the process of building his young squad, keeping his faith in youth players and Billy Gilmour has certainly looks like a players who is miles ahead of his tender age.
