Chelsea was on the verge of tasting their second defeat in a humiliating way at the Hawthorns on Saturday as Callum Robinson’s brace and a goal from Kyle Bartley saw the Blues trailing 3-0 in 27 minutes. But Lampard encouraged his boys to make a comeback and they did pull back to snatch a point from the away game.
Mason Mount, Hudson-Odoi, and Tammy Abraham helped Chelsea to make an impressive comeback in the added time. Darren Bent chose Callum Hudson Odoi to be the player who inspired the comeback. He was very impressed with the player’s display against West Brom.
Bent told in a Footbal Insider interview: ‘Callum Hudson-Odoi was the big one. He was the player that made a real difference. He was really exciting and gave them a bit of impetus.”
Hudson Odoi made it tough for the West Brom defenders. He was agile and showed tremendous determination to turn the game in his team’s favor as per him.
Callum has had a shaky start in his Chelsea career with patches of brilliant forms. He was tipped to leave the club for Bayern Munich but eventually stayed.
“When he got on the ball he made life really, really uncomfortable for West Brom. He played really, really well. ‘That is the Hudson-Odoi that we want to see week in, week out.”
“At times he has been brilliant, like when he was linked with Bayern Munich but then he went off the boil a bit,” Bent added.
It is yet to be seen when the young player finds his best form and get rid of his inconsistency so as to flourish in Chelsea. Coach Frank Lampard was way more than impressed with his performance and hailed the lad.
‘He is still trying to find his best form but if yesterday is anything to go by he is on his way back. ‘A really good performance from him and a performance that Chelsea needed.’
Chelsea boss Lampard said in the post match interview, “Callum gave us everything that I wanted.”
The coach also talked about his goal which gave the team some confidence and that’s what he expects from Callum to do. Lampard is aware of the talent he possesses and considers him as a crucial part to win the title this season.
‘It has to be consistent but he’s given himself a great platform to continue in that vein because he’ll be very important for us if he does,’ exclaimed Frank Lampard.
A more consistent performance like this will definitely move him up the pecking order. He must focus on keeping that because if he fails to do before Hakim Ziyech and Pulisic returns, he might never use the platform he created for himself this season.
The upcoming matches will say if he can keep up his form or not. But if he does, his future in this season will be brighter than ever both for him and the club as well.
