Danny Drinkwater career at Chelsea has finally come to an end

Speaking of the end of an era, Danny Drinkwater is expected to leave Chelsea this summer and become a free agent, as his five-year contract with the club expires next month.

He will leave the club with a total of 23 appearances, with all but one coming during his rookie season.

His final official Chelsea appearance was in the 2018 Community Shield, after which he went on loan to Burnley, Aston Villa, Kasmpaşa SK in Turkey, and Reading this season in an attempt to restore his “shambolic” career.

With the Royals, he was reasonably successful, playing a major role in their Championship survival (aided by Derby County’s point subtraction)

The 32-year-old will miss the Royals’ final match of the season due to injury, and he announced his resignation on Instagram.

Drinkwater, who joined Chelsea from Leicester City for an estimated £35 million in 2017, is unquestionably one of the worst signings of the Abramovich era.

Without the bottomless hole of an oligarch’s bank account to back us up and help us correct, ignore, or simply forget expensive mistakes, his departure is a timely and clear reminder that we can no longer afford to be so wasteful going forward.

The Englishmen seemed to never settle his career at one club except for Leicester City where he made over 200+ appearances for the Foxes.

However, his elongated career for the Blues never looked possible, and the West Londoners already spotted his level under the regime of Maurizio Sarri.

As things stand the future of Drinkwater is coming to an end and there is no possibility of him getting a chance under Tuchel’s watch.
