Crystal Palace boss Vieira backs Chelsea for Premier League glory

Patrick Vieira admits that Chelsea has what it takes to compete for Premier League glory this season with the new Crystal Palace boss voicing praise for his opening day opponents.

Thomas Tuchel’s men ran out convincing victors over Palace in the opening matchup of the 2021-22 top-flight campaign for both sides on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been active in the ongoing summer transfer window by signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in a big-money transfer which is bound to bolster Tuchel’s options up top on the pitch.

Goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and Trevoh Chalobah sealed the three points for the hosts against the Palace outfit which was under the charge of a newly appointed coach in Arsenal hero Patrick Vieira.

Speaking to reporters in the aftermath of the Stamford Bridge showdown over the weekend, the Eagles gaffer issued plaudits for the Blues with Vieira backing Chelsea to give a tough challenge to rival clubs for the Premier League crown.

“It was a very tough start but obviously we have to play them.”

“Obviously Chelsea, with the squad that they have, the money they have spent, they will be there fighting for the title.

“I think Chelsea will be in the top 3 teams who can win the Premier League.”
