Andres Christensen returns to the Chelsea defence after his recent absence on the teamsheet with Hakim Ziyech retaining his place up top as the Blues welcome Brighton for Tuesday evening action at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had most recently stepped out on their own patch for FA Cup football last weekend in what turned out to be a 1-0 win for Thomas Tuchel’s side over Manchester City.
A new-look backline for the Blues
Christensen’s return to the back is supplemented with Kurt Zouma getting a surprise nod ahead of skipper Cesar Azpicuelleta.
Thiago Silva had sustained a back issue last time around meaning that the Brazillian international is missing from the Chelsea squad that has been announced to take on the Seagulls.
Marcos Alonso is another face that gets a look into the starting eleven with the Spaniard replacing Ben Chilwell out wide in the left wing-back role.
No Kante and Werner in the XI for the Blues
N’Golo Kante is benched for today’s clash with Jorginho being partnered by Mason Mount as the two midfield options for the Blues, the former also donning the skipper’s armband in Azpicuelleta’s absence amongst those on the starting teamsheet.
Timo Werner is also relegated to the bench once again for top-flight action despite his decent showing against Manchester City in the FA Cup as Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic are issued recalls.
Here is how both teams line up for today’s Premier League fixture:
