Christian Pulisic admits he wants extended first-team opportunities for Chelsea with speculation rife over the American winger’s future at the Bridge beyond this summer.
The recently concluded 2021-22 campaign was another frustrating one for the former Dortmund player as he struggled to cement a his spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI despite his fellow attackers failing to impress.
Pulisic sat out the start of the season owing to a combination of Covid-19 and a serious ankle injury and his return was followed up by a poor run of form which led to question marks over his long-term future in the English capital.
He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2024 and even though it is not expected of Tuchel to sanction Pulisic’s departure in the transfer window currently underway, the player remains hopeful of getting more opportunities in the upcoming season.
Speaking in the build up to his country’s friendly game against Morroco on Thursday, Pulisic said that was keen to proving his fitness levels are in the best position ahead of the FIFA World Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar later this year, according to Goal.
“As far as right now, I’m obviously just focused on what I’m doing here [with the USMNT]. And I’m super excited to be here.
“Of course, I want to get more playing time. I want to be on the field as much as I can and be the sharpest I can be and fit as well.
“I think I still have a lot of games, but it’s always something that I’m working at and trying to be regular at club level as well to put myself in the best position to be fit when I come here with the national team.”
