Chelsea found a smart way to get their new Thiago Silva with another summer deal after bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo.
Getting Thiago Silva was a clever move for Chelsea. Even at 35, coming for free from Paris Saint-Germain, the old defender added the know-how Chelsea’s back line needed.
Silva first signed a one-year deal in 2020 but stayed on at Stamford Bridge until this summer when he left at age 39.
Over four years in west London, Silva played 113 games in the Premier League, netting eight goals – that’s about 28 games each season, which is quite good for an older defender.
He was a steady figure on the team under five different bosses, proving his skills and star touch.
Though Chelsea will miss his role, they could find similar success in the current transfer season.
Mats Hummels will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer for free, after a 13-year run over two times with the team.

In a warm note to fans, Hummels shared, “Dear fans, my days in black and yellow are now over after over 13 years. It has been a huge honor and pleasure for me to have played for BVB for so long and to have been part of the journey from 13th place in January 2008.
I hold out hope that we can all come together again at Borsigplatz in the near future, sharing in the joyous celebration and reflecting on the memories we’ve made over and over the years.”
Hummels, like Silva, is 35 years old and available on a free transfer.
Although he has never played in the Premier League, his vast experience could make him an excellent addition to Chelsea’s squad. Hummels could bring valuable leadership to a young Chelsea team, much like Silva did.
Chelsea just added Tosin Adarabioyo to their team, making their defense stronger. If Trevoh Chalobah leaves, getting Hummels could be a smart move. His know-how would be a big help, guiding the younger ones.
Getting Hummels for free would be a smart play for Chelsea, making their defense even better with a player who knows how to win. He could really help the team do well.
