According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has reached an agreement on personal terms with Saudi club Al Ahli and is nearing a move this summer.
The negotiations are said to be in the final stages, and a permanent deal is expected to be finalized soon. Mendy, who represents Senegal internationally, is set to receive a contract until 2026.
Mendy’s future at Chelsea has been uncertain since he turned down a contract extension from the club towards the end of last year.
Recent reports from Sky Sports indicated that the new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, is interested in making Kepa Arrizabalaga the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

He played a significant role in the Blues’ triumph in the UEFA Champions League and contributed to a decent 2021/22 season, despite facing external disruptions.
However, the situation changed at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. Following Thomas Tuchel’s departure as Chelsea’s manager, Mendy found himself dropped from the starting lineup under Graham Potter. This marked a downturn in his performance and playing time.
Despite a current lack of confidence, the 31 years old remains a capable goalkeeper who would perform well for his next club, Al Ahli.

It is crucial for Chelsea to utilize the funds received from this deal wisely in the transfer market. The team needs to focus on signing a striker and strengthening the midfield.
The key lies in acquiring the right players rather than simply adding a large number of players. With no European football to contend with in the upcoming season, Pochettino would prefer to avoid having an excessively large squad.
