Chelsea’s deadline day offer for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia was turned down with the Saints keen to retain the player for the 2022-23 campaign.
The Blues had long been on the hunt for reinforcements to freshen the midfield roster at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal and finished the summer window by signing Juventus man Denis Zakaria on loan with an option to make the move permanent.
According to a report from The Athletic, it is claimed that Chelsea tabled a £50 million bid for the 18-year-old Saints talent Lavia which was rejected by the South Coast outfit in a blow to Tuchel’s plans of landing the midfielder.
Tuchel has been busy in his search for a quality midfield player to bolster his squad as the Chelsea head coach frets over the long-term future of Jorginho amid interest in the Italian’s signature from the likes of Juventus and Napoli.
Lavia signed for Southampton earlier this year in the summer window from the Premier League champions Manchester City and has enjoyed a superb start to life at St. Mary’s.
