Chelsea signed left-back Ben Chilwell from Premier League rivals Leicester City in this summer transfer window. The 23-year-old appeared in Chelsea jersey in the Carabao Cup victory last week against Barnsley.
The left-back wants to follow in the footsteps Ashley Cole who is a Premier League legend and also a former Chelsea player. The Premier League, Champions League and Europa League are all under Cole’s belt as a Chelsea player.
Cole has exchanged words with Chilwell after the Leicester left-back made a transfer and Ben has noted down some cliche yet important points. Cole has advised him to work hard and die for the shirt in order to become a fans’ favourite at Stamford Bridge. The only way to win fans is by giving everything to the club during a game.
Cole has assured Chilwell that if he follows his words, he would surely have a wonderful career at Stamford Bridge. Chilwell admires the ex-Chelsea player and wants to follow his footsteps and looking at him, it is quite evident that he considers Cole as a mentor.
As per Chelsea FC website, the new Blues defender said: ‘Coming to Chelsea, as well as talking to Lampard, a big actor for me was speaking to Ashley and seeing his career here.
‘I want to emulate that. To have someone like that to look up to, it was important for me.”
‘I was keen to meet him and get to know him and pick his brains about his career at Chelsea. I’m going to work as hard as I can to try and emulate what he did here.’
Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard will expect Chilwell to give a defensive solidity in the left-hand side as that is one department Chelsea has been struggling since last season.
Chilwell assures that along with his teammates, he is working day in and day out to improve the backline and be prepared for crucial matches ahead.
