Chelsea were the frontrunners for Aurelien Tchouameni’s signature before sanctions were imposed on the west Londoners by the UK government.
The aftermath of the Russian-Ukraine war brought Chelsea owner Roman Abromovich under the scanner of the authorities for his alleged links with Vladimir Putin and Chelsea were barred from doing transfer business of any kind.
According to a report from the Spanish news outlet Marca ( via The Daily Express), it is claimed that Chelsea were in pole position to land the AS Monaco midfield talent Aurelien Tchouameni the off-field crisis played spoilsport to their transfer plans for this coming summer.
Tchouameni has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge with the Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel keen to add quality to his midfield ranks ahead of the start of the new campaign by signing the highly-rated Ligue 1 starlet.
Monaco’s woeful form in domestic football has made Tchouameni’s future more uncertain beyond the summer with Chelsea joined by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in the chase for the Frenchman.
