Chelsea vs West Ham United – Chelsea Predicted Lineups | EPL 20-21

After a couple of losses on the trot, Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways as the face their fellow Londoners up next. Chelsea play hosts to West Ham in the Monday night football as the Premier League gears up for boxing day. The Blues will be expected to come out with a lot of vigour after losing two consecutive games against Everton and Wolves. The Chelsea attack has suddenly looked lack lustre and Lampard has a couple of decisions to make for the London derby. The likes of Werner and Havertz haven’t been good for the past few games and deserve to be dropped. Thus, it will be a think to ponder for Lampard about how should he chose his starting XI against the Hammers. Here we take a look at how Frank Lampard might set his Chelsea side up against David Moyes’ West Ham in the Premier League.

THE 4-3-3

It has been typical of Frank Lampard to play a 4-3-3 at Chelsea this season with the renaissance of N’Golo Kante as a defensive midfielder. The French midfield maestro has controlled the Blues’ midfield very well this season and has looked like the player he was a couple of years ago. Mason Mount and Matteo Kovacic has also done well this season and should accompany Kante in the midfield as Havertz has been poor. The defence suddenly looks shaky as Chelsea have conceded goals in the last couple of games in a manner they should never have. But other than that they have been one of the best defences in the league after the arrival of Mendy. The front three will be the main concern for Lampard ironically after such a great summer transfer window. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been poor in the last few days but with Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi out, Lampard will have to play either of the first pair.

THE 4-2-3-1

The 4-2-3-1 is another option for Lampard to use, as the Chelsea squad has a plethora of midfielders who are very versatile. Mason Mount has almost become one of the first names in the team-sheet and it is a strong possibility for him to start the game. In such a system, Kai Havertz will be expected to play in the No.10 role, where he looks more comfortable. The midfield pivot is almost a surety in such a system with Kante and Kovacic pairing up very well in the past. Kovacic was the club’s Player of the season last year around but has barely had a sniff this season. Giroud is also someone who looks to have cemented his place as he almost always seems to score when he turns up for the Blues.

THE 3-4-3

The only other system that has been used at Chelsea under Lampard’s reign has been the 3-4-3, but Chelsea have only played such a system against sides with a good attack. It is very unlikely for the Blues boss to use it against West Ham who don’t have a lethal attack. It will be expected of Chelsea to win the game but football is a game of high unpredictability.
