Chelsea welcome Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Thursday in yet another big six clash in the Premier League.
The Blues have been inconsistent this season and their league position does highlight the fact that they have been unable to maintain their rhythm.
After some decent performances before the international break, they failed to defeat ten-man Burnley. Mauricio Pochettino’s side was saved by Cole Palmer’s brace.
The midfielder continued his hot form for the West London side and will hope to contribute more against the Red Devils after three days.
With eleven wins and 10 losses in 28 games, Chelsea are placed at the 11th spot in the PL table. It is highly unlikely for them to make it to the major European competition next season due to the high points game.
But they can surely aim to finish the season as high as possible and give them a decent base to work on. Meanwhile, Man United also drew against Brentford in what would be one of their worst games of this term.
Both sides have met several times in the past although history favours the Red Devils in this case. Chelsea last won a league match against United in 2017 and they would be more than happy to end this drought.
Talking about the Blues’ long injury list, they haven’t received anything positive regarding player returnees. Full-backs Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell are doubts for their next match and it remains to be seen whether they can make it to the starting XI.
The former picked up a hamstring injury against Burnley while the latter returned from international duty after receiving a knock.
Noni Madueke’s return might give options to Pochettino to plan his attacking lineup accordingly.
Djordje Petrovic will be starting in front of the nets with Axel Disasi and Thiago Silva likely to pair up as centre-backs. Alfie Gilchrist would be a choice at right-back and we expect Ben Chilwell to start even if he is a doubt.
Enzo Fernandes and Moises Caicedo will pair in midfield and Conor Gallagher will take the role as the attacking midfielder. Mudryk and Cole Palmer will cover the flanks. Nicolas Jackson will be leading the frontline as usual.
