Chelsea vs Brighton : Chelsea player ratings

Kepa Arrizabalaga 6

Did not have anything to do in the first half with Brighton having zero attempts at goal. Had to come out of goal a few times in the second half. Does not look assured when coming out for corners

Cesar Azpilicueta 6.5

Got in good crossing positions upfield and was solid defensively although he wasn’t tested by the Brighton attackers much.

Andreas Christensen 6

Booked in the first half after he played a poor pass and then had to cynically foul the Brighton attacker. Read the game well and has the pace to recover.

Fikayo Tomori 7

Tougher tests await for the young defender but he is improving with each game. Was solid again and tracked the runners well the entire game.

Marcos Alonso 6.5

Should have scored in the first half when he got at the end of Azpilicueta’s cross but shot wide of the goal. Linked up well with Pedro and Willian on the left-hand side. Booked for a flailing arm

Jorginho 7.5

Played some good passes and switched the play well, did well defensively intercepting passes and ran the game before stepping up and slotting the penalty confidently. Looks like a real leader in this Chelsea team.

Ross Barkley 6

Was guilty of taking too many touches before passing the ball, had an easy chance to score when he was the end of Alonso’s cross but cushioned the ball straight at Matt Ryan

Pedro 6

Wasn’t at his best against Brighton, got in good positions a couple of times but shot straight at Matt Ryan. Tracked back well as you would expect from Pedro.

Mason Mount 7

Continued his dream start to his Premier League career by winning Chelsea’s penalty when he pressed Webster into losing the ball and ultimately conceding a penalty. Linked well Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi later in the second half

Willian 7.5

Continued his good run of form, troubled the defenders all game and capped off his display with a deflected goal after being set up by Callum Hudson-Odoi on the counter-attack.

Tammy Abraham 7

Didn’t get his goal today but was brilliant with his hold up play, dropped deep to receive the ball allowing the wingers to overlap. Should have had two goals, first when he failed to get his head on Barkley’s freekick and second when he was through on goal but his dink over the goalkeeper was read well by Matt Ryan.
