Chelsea urged to resign Ake by former scout

Chelsea scout Piet de Visser has encouraged the west London club to re-sign Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, saying the center-back would be a perfect fit for Frank Lampard’s young Chelsea team.

Netherlands international Ake switched from Stamford Bridge to the South Coast for £20m in 2017, having struggled to break from the academy into the Blues first team.

But now that the West London club has backed their youth stars to play under Frank Lampard, De Visser believes Ake should also be there alongside them.

Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Ajax in the Champions League, he told Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant: “Ake should have played for Chelsea by now. He’s so good.

“How often does he not score with his head? He has timing and insight. I hope they buy him back. That boy is perfect for them and he has played with Lampard.”.

He added: “With [Fikayo] Tomori, [Andreas] Christensen and [Kurt] Zouma you actually lack one old hand in the center of the defense.

“It’s regrettable that they have sold David Luiz to Arsenal [because] Luiz was top last season for organization alone.”

The 24-year-old made his 100th appearance for Bournemouth last weekend. With a transfer ban in place at Chelsea, Lampard has relied on his academy stars to step up. Youngsters Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori have been Chelsea’s three best performers, although the change in ethos came too late for Ake. Before Ake left, no academy star had managed to become a starter at Chelsea since John Terry.

Manchester City has been linked with the Dutch center back and might still make an offer in the January transfer window with the club currently short on center backs after Kompany’s departure and Laporte’s injury.
