Chelsea are in line to revive their interest in signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after having a £40 million bid turned down in the summer transfer window.
Alvarez emerged as a late-window transfer target for then-Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel who was on the lookout for reinforcements to freshen his engine room options before deadline day.
Ajax, however, were quick to turn down the approach for their star first-teamer from the Stamford Bridge camp who are still in the mix for Alvarez despite a change in managerial reigns with Graham Potter taking over from Tuchel.
According to a report from football.london, it is claimed that Chelsea remain open to entering negotiations with the Eredivisie champions for the 24-year-old Mexico international Alvarez when the transfer window reopens come January.
The uncertainty that looms over the future of Chelsea regulars Jorginho and N’Golo Kante could convince the west London outfit and the newly appointed manager Potter to dip into the market soon for much-needed fresh faces.
