Chelsea is reportedly preparing a new contract to keep winger Willian at the club with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
Barcelona has been linked with Willian’s signature in previous transfer windows and was reportedly willing to pay up to £60million for the forward a year ago.
Willian is keen to remain at Chelsea despite interest from Barcelona and recently with Juventus, with the Brazilian’s representatives currently in talks with the London club over a contract extension.
Juventus have a reputation for signing players on free transfers and have recently signed Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Emre Can all on free transfers. In January, the 31-year-old will be free to discuss terms with other clubs over a prospective move as his current £120,000-a-week contract is set to expire in June 2020.
Willian joined Chelsea from Russian side Anzhi in 2013 and has divided opinion among fans with many fans critical about his end product in front of goal.
But despite the criticism, the Brazilian international has made more than 330 appearances for Chelsea, scoring over 50 goals and is currently a key part of Frank Lampard’s youth revolution that has seen young players been given an opportunity in the first team.
Willian has been a constant on the right wing for Chelsea this season with Lampard a huge admirer of the wingers’ work rate.
The Blues historically have only offered players over the age of 30 rolling one-year extensions. They did, however, break that policy recently with longer deals tabled for David Luiz and Olivier Giroud.
