Rumored Chelsea FC target Jose Gimenez has fueled transfer rumors ahead of next season by revealing his love for the Blues and his admiration for the boss of the west London outfit, Frank Lampard.
The Uruguayan international is reportedly a major target for Lampard this summer after it has come to be understood that the Chelsea FC boss is on the lookout for a new center-back. The Blues coach is dissatisfied with his current center-back options at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.
Gimenez was full of praise for Lampard in a recent interview with La Liga. The Atletico Madrid man recalled his childhood desire of wanting to play for the former Chelsea and England midfield maestro. Moreover, the 25-year old revealed that he loved the Blues side in his boyhood days.
“I would have liked to play with Lampard. I always used to watch Chelsea as a kid, loved them.”
With Chelsea FC being priced out of a potential deal for West Ham United star Declan Rice, the club is all set to shift its focus on signing Gimenez instead, reports suggest.
The center-back has been a colossal presence at the back for Diego Simeone’s side in recent seasons. Following Diego Godin’s departure last summer, Gimenez has emerged as a leader for the Spanish club from the back. Moreover, he has also become a regular starter for the South American football dark horses Uruguay alongside his former club teammate Godin.
